What’s the general consensus on the 2 Door Gladiator front? I have been following the scrambler up until launch, but I am only interested in a regular cab, shorter truck. Is there still a chance of something coming along, or are all hopes dashed?

I wouldn't hold my breath. No one is even buying 2 far wranglers any more, let alone regular cab trucks.

Not going to happen per Jeep. Way too lazy to find the source interview.

Nope, its an “ active lifestyle vehicle” for families , not a utilitarian work truck. 4 doors with a short bed  is all the target market wants, and Fiat Chrysler can already sell every one they can build.

I wouldn’t hold my breath on that one. I’m sure they’ve had discussions about whether they could do away with the 2-door Wrangler all together, but feel stuck keeping it for image reasons . However, they have no reason to extend that generosity to another product that would be very niche.

About as likely as a four door Mustang.

I bet someone will still make a Brute-like conversion kit that sits on a JLU frame.

I would never buy a four-door truck. I’m in the same mindset as you, the Gladiator is set up to be ridiculously long, and if I have to deal with 11 feet of wheelbase, I’d rather have that extra wheelbase be occupied by usable bed length, not a massive back seat.

Unfortunately I don’t think a two-door version is likely, given they haven’t already come out with one. If you look at the rest of the truck market, two door trucks are getting hard to come by. You can’t get one from GM at all outside of commercial cab and chassis models. Dodge will only sell you a regular cab with lower trim levels on 3/4 and one tons, and the 1500 lost the regular cab in the latest redesign. Ford is the only regular cab half-ton on the market, but it’s also currently the least recent redesign... maybe you can get a Titan in a regular cab but I’m not seeing the 2019 configurators yet. But there are no more new regular cab midsize trucks.

Also FCA themselves said at the G ladiator’s launch that there were no plans for a two-door. Which is unfortunate. I might have dropped the deposit on a regular cab Gladiator already, although I’d probably hold off for the diesel I think. An extended cab would at least get me in the door at the dealer. But a crewcab? Nah. You want a minivan , buy  the  damn minivan. No truck with 11 feet of wheelbase should have only a five-foot bed.

My dad 2 years ago wanted a regular cab, short bed, with 4wd and a v8 . The dealer had to call a dozen dealerships and have one shipped from 200 miles away.

For jeep 75% are 4 doors.

Not with all the sales to mall crawling soccer moms, then they put a pop up tent on them ad ten grand in off road parts they feel they need to go to the ski resort. Much like what all the Tacos are looking like around here.

I know that they will be all over SEMA 2019, but I just want something affordable. It would basically be my life-truck. Wouldn’t need anything else...

I would be interested to see that breakdown from Jeep. They just list the combined right now I think.

Yup- I’ve owned three trucks, all full size I admit, but all regular cabs. I want a smaller truck, but want a short wheelbase. A gladiator on a JK 4dr wheelbase or even slightly shorter would be ideal. Would make the couple times I go into the city easier, and is better in the woods.

I can tell you that I will not buy a 4dr, but would buy a 2dr. I bet there are others in the same boat, and since a lot of the parts would be carryover, the cost/ risk  wouldn’t be insane to FCA to make a regular cab. But, I know what you are saying is true.

I got an 08 RCSB 4wd, but you’re right- mine is a V6. But you also don’t see them sitting on lots unsold. I’d say it’s more of dealers selling what they want to than people buying what they want.

I think dealers skew as they’ll order the 4 door or in truck world quad cab as they know they can talk people into spending more and thus charge more.

Exactly. That back seat is massive. If you compare the G ladiator to a Tacoma, it’s the same dimensions as the crew cab long bed. Somehow they fit both a back seat and an extra foot of bed within the same overall length, other midsize trucks are similar lengths , and the Colorado long bed is 6.5 feet. I’d prefer not to have the back seat at all, but at least the other trucks come with an extended cab option that doesn’t occupy as much wheelbase as the crewcab.

I’ve got not one but two Jeep Comanches in the driveway. One shortbed, one long. The short one is still 6', with a payload rating of ~ 1400lbs. The other has a 7' bed and the metric ton parts are waiting to get slapped on, allowing for 2200lbs of payload. With open diffs sure they’re not as capable off-road straight out of the box as the Gladiator will be, and they won’t tow quite as much, but a Comanche is better at being a truck while being smaller  than the four-door-only-minuscule-bed-only behemoth.
